Booking terms
Plain English. Effective October 2026. These terms apply to journeys booked through destinationperu.com; Inca Trail treks booked through incatrek.com have their own terms.
Your journey is designed and operated by Destination Peru E.I.R.L. (Cusco, Peru). Inca Trek LLC, a Utah company, is the merchant of record: it is the company you contract with and pay. When these terms say "we", they mean both.
Every journey starts with a written proposal: day-by-day itinerary, hotels, inclusions, exclusions and price per person in U.S. dollars. Prices shown on this site as "from" are starting points for a typical private journey in standard season and are confirmed in your proposal. Your journey is confirmed when we receive your deposit and hotel, train and ticket availability has been confirmed for your dates.
A deposit of US$500 per person secures your journey and is applied to your trip total. The balance is due 60 days before arrival in Peru. For journeys booked inside 60 days, full payment is due at confirmation. We accept major credit cards (processed by Stripe) at no additional fee, and bank transfer (no fee).
We check Machu Picchu ticket availability for your dates before we charge your deposit. If, after your deposit, we cannot secure those tickets, we will offer you new dates or refund the deposit in full. Otherwise deposits are non-refundable. Balances are non-refundable once paid, because hotels, trains, Machu Picchu tickets and guides are reserved and paid for on your behalf well in advance. We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation, medical care and trip interruption. Where a supplier refunds us for a service you could not use, we will pass that refund on to you. Changes to dates or itinerary after confirmation are subject to availability and to any supplier change fees.
Exactly what your proposal lists: typically private guides and transport, the hotels named, breakfasts and the meals shown for each day, entrance tickets and train tickets, and airport transfers. Not included unless stated: international and domestic flights, travel insurance, meals not listed, personal expenses and gratuities.
Domestic flights inside Peru are not included unless your proposal says so. If you would like us to book them, we recommend LATAM and charge a booking service fee of US$50 per domestic round trip or US$100 per international round trip, plus the fare. Airline schedule changes are outside our control; we will always help you re-plan.
You are responsible for holding a passport valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates and for any visa your nationality requires. Machu Picchu and train tickets are issued in your name and checked against your passport, so the details you give us must match the passport you carry.
Cusco sits at about 11,200 feet (3,400 m). Please tell us about any medical condition, mobility need or dietary requirement so we can plan around it, and consult your doctor about altitude if you have any concerns. Our guides may adjust an activity for safety or weather; where an included service cannot be delivered, we will offer an equivalent alternative.
We arrange services provided by independent hotels, airlines, railways and other suppliers, each operating under their own conditions. We are responsible for arranging those services with care; we are not liable for losses caused by events outside our control, including weather, strikes, road or rail closures, supplier failures and changes to government rules on access to sites such as Machu Picchu.
Journeys booked through a travel advisor are subject to these same terms. The advisor remains your point of contact and we never contact an advisor's clients directly without the advisor's agreement.
