Make time to meet the people behind the textiles.
A weaving demonstration in Chinchero helps you appreciate a textile before you decide whether to buy it. Weavers explain the materials and techniques, and your guide helps with questions and conversation. We include a cooperative demonstration in our longer valley itineraries and can discuss a more focused textile experience for a custom journey.
See the process, not just the finished piece.
During a demonstration, local weavers introduce natural dyes, spinning and handweaving. Your guide helps the conversation flow and gives you time to ask questions. Watching the work makes it easier to appreciate the attention and skill behind a textile. If you would like a deeper workshop, tell us while we are planning so we can arrange the right format.
Keep the visit comfortable and personal.
There is no obligation to buy. Tell us whether you would enjoy a brief introduction or whether textiles are a particular interest. We can discuss a longer visit or a workshop where one is available.
Where it fits in the journey.
We’ll coordinate the visit with the rest of your Sacred Valley day. On Signature Peru and Exploration of Peru, these visits connect with the train to Aguas Calientes. With more time in the valley, as on Peru in Depth, the visit can be separated from the train journey rather than fitting everything into one day.
