Give the visit its own day.
With two nights in Aguas Calientes, you can arrive the day before your visit and return toward Cusco the following day. That means your Machu Picchu visit does not need to share a day with the full journey back. It also gives you time to enjoy your hotel.

We coordinate your guide, entry time, circuit and buses before you travel. A day devoted to Machu Picchu means the day is reserved around your visit; the time inside the archaeological site follows your specific ticket and circuit. If you want Huayna Picchu or Montaña, we plan the appropriate permit separately. Exploration of Peru has two separately reserved Machu Picchu entries, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Enjoy the place you are staying.
Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo is part of the experience, with casitas set among the cloud forest. A second night gives you time to return from the site, have a meal and enjoy the surroundings. You can talk through what you have seen while it is still fresh, without immediately turning your attention to a departure.
Make room for Cusco, too.
